This past week, I had the absolute pleasure of attending the Lets Talk Weddings Awards 2024, held at the beautiful Westgrove Hotel in Clane, Co. Kildare. It was an evening to remember, filled with laughter, excitement, and the immense joy of being recognised for my wedding cake designs. Though I didn’t win Cake Designer Of The Year, I was honoured to receive Highly Commended in the category—a true reflection of the hard work and passion I put into each and every cake.
Preparing for the Big Night
The day began with me and my wonderful friend Penny, who joined me for moral support and a bit of pampering! We checked into the Westgrove Hotel, a stunning venue that gave us a chance to unwind before the awards with a bottle of Prosecco. Getting ready was so much fun—we felt a mix of nerves and excitement as we looked forward to what promised to be an unforgettable night.
The Ceremony: Hosted by Black Paddy
The awards night itself was full of magic, thanks in part to the brilliant host, Fabu-D, better known as Black Paddy. Fabu-D is an incredibly talented comedian who has captured the hearts of many through his viral social media videos, where he humorously shares his experience of life in Ireland. His infectious energy and witty banter made the night lively and entertaining from start to finish. I couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend the evening, surrounded by such incredible wedding suppliers and friends.
Celebrating Success
When it came time for my category, Cake Designer Of The Year, my heart was racing. While I didn’t win the top award which was taken home by the excellent Ruairis’s Kitchen in Cork (Congratualtions Ruairi!), being named Highly Commended was an incredible moment. It felt amazing to be recognised among so many talented cake designers. This achievement motivates me to continue creating one-of-a-kind wedding cakes for couples all across Ireland.
Congratulating the Winners
A huge congratulations to the other winners of the night, especially the talented cake designer who took home Cake Designer Of The Year. It was truly inspiring to be surrounded by such amazing people who pour their hearts into making weddings unforgettable. The event was a celebration of all the hard work that goes into creating dream weddings—from photographers and florists to musicians and venue stylists.
